I know it is already almost March but today I want to go over our 2017 Home Goals! For one to let you guys know what all we have planned but to also hold ourselves accountable. It can be so easy to let life get in the way and we really want to be much further along this time next year.
This won’t be in any particular order, these are just the things that are most important to us right now and who knows throughout the year this list could change. We have so many areas that we want to update its hard to pick which to do first but the most important thing is actually starting on something! Not allowing the amount of work to overwhelm us and just to get in there and do it!
1.) GUESTROOM: Our guest room doesn’t need a ton of work but it definitely needs paint! Currently, the walls are bright turquoise with a purple ceiling! I know, it was that way when we bought the house. I have created a design plan for this room and am excited to start on it. Once we finish it the kids will each have a completed space of their own which makes me happy!
2.) PAINT,PAINT,PAINT: Our entire house besides two of the rooms we have already finished need paint. We are updating the palette from a light beige with dark beige accents to a light gray with some dark gray accents here and there. We still have tons to do but I am hoping if we stick to our plan it is all done before the end of the year. We are going with SW Repose gray and SW Dovetail because neither of these colors have strong undertones like most gray paint colors. We used both in our office here and I absolutely love them!
3.) LAUNDRY ROOM: Our laundry room is not very big so there is limited space. We plan to completely redo the area by updating the flooring, cabinets, adding tile backsplash, a sink, and built-in laundry baskets. The built-in baskets are really a must since there is no area to put baskets other than the countertop which then makes the entire space look like a total mess! Honestly, that is one of the things I am most excited about, it would really make the room look more inviting not having dirty clothes all over the countertop. Speaking of countertops they are tile and need to be updated.
4.) GUEST BATH: Right now this bathroom looks okay, it is decorated and really it wouldn’t kill me if it stayed like this for a while but there are several things that need to be addressed. The first thing is updating the vanity and countertops, the last owners painted the vanity brown. So we plan to either replace it completely or reface the cabinet doors and repaint it a different color. The countertops are tile as is the rest of our house and they have got to go! My plan is to put marble or quartz countertops throughout the entire house. Also, when the house was built whoever installed the light fixture in this room did not center it and it literally drives me insane! We want to update the flooring and we haven’t decided if we are going to remove the current tub shower combo insert and tile it in or not but I am thinking we will probably end up removing it. One of my absolute favorite bathrooms is by Nancy at the Decor Detective the herringbone tile and that GOLD literally makes me drool and I will definitely be pulling some major inspiration from it!
5.) MASTER BEDROOM: The master has several projects that need to be done. First, we would like to add two sliding barn doors leading to the master bath. We want to update the window seat and add a cushion, paint and possibly update our bed. (another one of those purchases we made without thinking) We would really like an upholstered bed instead of our current wooden bed.
6.) REPLACEMENT FOR BROWN SOFA: remember in my introduction how I said we purchased brown furniture? We wanted the largest sofa they had as our old set was very large and we loved them so much but they were really worn out. We searched the entire store but the only large sofa they had was brown! We really love the furniture itself but wish we would have waited and found something that was a much lighter color. I am keeping my eye out, as soon as we see something that is large enough we will probably swoop it up. I have even called about having ours reupholstered and if it comes down to it we may end up doing that.
7.) FINISH MISC. PROJECTS: I am the worlds worst about grabbing something off the side of the road when the DIY fairies start pulling me that direction. Yes! DIY fairies are very real, just ask my husband. Once its home I sit it in our garage or shed then don’t think about it again for six months. Like the time I finished our daughters room two Christmas’s ago minus the bed crown curtains, only for them to still not be done! It has really become a serious issue and this year I want to be more intentional about the things I bring home and finish one project before I start another. That is the goal, we will see how it goes.
8.) FIREPLACE: We have a double-sided red brick fireplace in our living room (the other side is in our dining room). When I say red brick I mean as red as brick can get and massive! I absolutely love having a fireplace and love that its double-sided since you don’t see that much. We really just want to update it so it fits in more with our style. We plan to cut down the brick mantel that goes all the way around the fireplace and replace it with a reclaimed wood mantel on each side. Instead of painting the brick we love the mortar washed look that is on the fireplace at Our coastal farmhouse. She also has brick over her oven like we do and it looks amazing mortar washed. We may shiplap the top but we haven’t decided.
9.) BACKYARD: Our backyard faces the west and we have absolutely no shade! Not one bit I tell ya! Also the back wall of our living room, kitchen and dining is made up of 7 huge windows. That being said Oklahoma has the most miserable summers and when that sun is beating through the windows it makes it hard to keep it cool in the afternoons. We think a few shade trees in the backyard would really help this issue. I also think we would get more use out of our backyard if we had one single place to get out of the sun.
10.) LANDSCAPING: We want to update the landscaping in the front yard. Maybe pull out the square boxwoods that are currently there and add a couple evergreens and some perennials. We also want to update the bed around the tree that’s in the middle of our front yard. It currently has rocks around the perimeter and we would like to change it to something else. We really want to ramp up the curb appeal.
There you have it, I honestly hope we can knock these things off our list and just doing the things listed would make a tremendous difference in our home! Do you have any home goals for 2017? Have you created a plan for those goals? If so I would love to hear what they are and how you plan to achieve them.
